Maternity photo timing

When to take maternity photos

Take maternity photos at 28 to 34 weeks, and reach out at 18 to 28 weeks to hold your date. Your bump is full and round, you still feel good moving, and there's a cushion if baby comes early. For Detroit moms, that's also when the best Belle Isle evenings go.

Plan My Session

Why this window works

Before 28 weeks, many bumps still read as a soft curve. Past 34, standing, posing and gown changes start to feel like work. In between is when most moms feel most like themselves in front of the camera.

Every mom due in the same month wants the same few golden-hour evenings. We limit the number of sessions each month so every mom gets our full attention.

Planning a newborn session too?

Newborns are sleepiest and most curled up in their first two weeks, so newborn sessions are best planned before baby arrives. Mention it when you reach out and we'll plan both together.

We had an absolute blast at our maternity shoot and our photos came out stunning, as did the following newborn photos for our twins. Jasmine came to our home and made every step easy, I cannot recommend her enough! She had outfits for me and the girls, and provided hair and makeup - the less this new mom has to worry about, the better.

Questions moms ask us

What month of pregnancy should you take maternity photos?

Most moms are photographed in the seventh or early eighth month, at 28 to 34 weeks. Your bump is full and round, and you're still comfortable standing, walking and changing gowns.

How far in advance should I book a maternity photographer?

Reach out at 18 to 28 weeks. Our calendar fills 4 to 8 weeks out, so waiting until the third trimester can mean your best weeks are already taken.

What if I am already past 30 weeks?

Reach out anyway and tell us your due date. If there's still time, we'll find it. If not, we'll talk about a newborn session so you have beautiful photographs of the first days.

What if I am having twins or my doctor expects an early delivery?

Plan a few weeks earlier. Twins often arrive ahead of schedule, so we aim for the front of the window and keep your date flexible.
